🌈 Neurodiversity Newsletter June Edition

This monthly roundup is best read in a browser.
Welcome to June’s Neurodiversity Newsletter. As we enter Pride Month, you can read about the huge overlap between autism and LGBTQIA+ identities, and there are more resources and webinars linked below.
If you’re here for the resource and events listings included in this newsletter, you can also find them individually to aid navigation and reduce overwhelm:
There’s been a great response to the launch of my latest ebook, ‘Do You Think You May Be Autistic or ADHD? A Neuroaffirming Guide to Exploring Your Neurotype’.
Dr
is one of the most well known AuDHD psychologists, and someone whose content I share regularly in this newsletter. It was a wonderful surprise to see her sharing the guide along with the endorsement above. The ebook is included in her new Neurodivergent Toolbox which collates a wide range of helpful resources.
If you’ve found the guide valuable, please feel free to share it with others. It’s completely free for all and is designed to provide useful signposting for pretty much anyone - even if you’re already sure of your neurotype.
Last month also saw the Neurodivergent Healthcare Passport added to the archive of resources available to paid supporters. I couldn’t find anything comprehensive enough to cover the needs of someone with a wide range of neurodivergences, disabilities and health conditions, so I created my own.
If you’d like access to all my resources then you can subscribe annually to receive everything as it’s published, or choose the £5 per month option. There’s no tie-in so you can cancel at any time, and you'll be able to access all content - including the back catalogue of downloadable resources - for as long as you’re a member.
Every Thursday I share a new page of the week on Facebook. They’re pages in the broad field of psychology that I find interesting and worth following. These have been featured since my last newsletter:
Nigh.functioning.Autism
Tiffany is a multiply neurodivergent, disabled Black parent to three neurodivergent children. Shestarted the page because there wasn't enough understanding and empathy for parents' fear and being overwhelmed and systematically disempowered by the system. She offers a lot of support for non-speakers, including consultations and signposting. The page is a great resource for neurodivergent people and parents, covering issues from an intersectional, disability justice perspective.
neurodivergent_insights
Dr Megan Anna Neff is an AuDHD psychologist in Oregon, USA. She produces a phenomenal amount of helpful content covering everything from how different neurodivergences are presented in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and common misdiagnoses, through to common neurodivergent experiences and in-depth articles. She runs The Divergent Conversations Podcast with Patrick Casale and has authored several books including Self-Care for Autistic People and The Autistic Burnout Workbook.
Fidgets and Fries
Tiffany Hammond is a Black Autistic Texan author who shares her own experiences and those of parenting two autistic sons, one of whom is apraxic and non-speaking. She challenges the idea that those with high, complex needs should be defined by their struggles in order to access the care they need, and instead advocates for systems of care that resource and protect all people. Her writing is powerful and eloquent, and explains how Blackness intersects with visible disability. Tiffany's picture book, A Day with No Words, introduces AAC and the validity of non-spoken communication to a wider audience. It is now available to preorder.
Neurodivergent_lou
Lou creates explainers and reels about autistic ways of being. She covers traits and experiences in a clear and accessible way, helping spread understanding amongst autistic and allistic people alike. Many autistics find it hard to get family or friends to empathise with what's happening for them, so Lou's posts offer quick and easy references to support acceptance.
AUsome Training
This trailblazing Irish training organisation was founded more than 10 years ago by Evaleen Whelton. They challenge outdated thinking and create resources to support individuals, parents, schools and professionals. The AUsome Training Facebook page shares lots of information from a neuroaffirming perspective, countering the inaccurate and pathologising information that still circulates.
Please note these are all live online events and as such I am unable to verify or endorse content. Times are UK time - convert here. Please confirm details before booking.
