Free webinar: Addressing (C)PTSD symptoms caused by parent blame and other traumatic events
Register now to join me for a free live webinar with The PDA Space
Listen live for free from 7 to 8.30pm on Thursday, April 24th
Parent blame and fabricated and induced illness (FII) allegations can be the traumatic result for neurodivergent families who choose to reach out for support.
The PDA Society’s 2023 Parental Blame and the PDA Profile of Autism report highlighted the damage done by professionals and services who blame parents and carers for aspects of their children’s disability.
West Midlands ADASS and the University of Birmingham recently published the first part of their research into autism and parental blame, which highlights the trauma being inflicted on families. This is in large part due to the widespread lack of understanding from services about what being autistic really means, including different needs and ways of being.
The PDA Space are running an online Parent Blame, FII & Trauma Conference on Wednesday, May 7th which is open to professionals, families, and anyone else with an interest in the topic.
In the run up to this, I’ll be speaking in The PDA Space Portal on the topic of addressing (C)PTSD symptoms caused by parent blame and other traumatic events.
You can watch live from 7 to 8.30pm on Thursday, April 24th, and it will also be available as a recording.
Alternatively, membership of the portal gives you access to the recording as well as other supportive content, workshops and webinars.
Until the end of May it’s £1 for your first month, and then £15 per month if you’d like to stay. You can find out more here.
About the Parent Blame, FII & Trauma Conference
Nicola Reekie writes…
Have you seen the PDA Society’s 2023 report on Parental Blame & the PDA?
88% of parents said they felt blamed for their child’s needs or lack of progress.
Many were lone mothers or neurodivergent parents—some even faced safeguarding referrals just for asking for help.
And it’s not just PDA families.
False accusations of FII (Fabricated or Induced Illness) and parent blame are impacting families across the neurodivergent community.
When professionals misunderstand what they see it’s not just parents who suffer—the child pays the price.
That’s why we’re hosting the FII & Parent Blame Conference:
To raise awareness.
To challenge harmful narratives.
To equip professionals to support—not suspect—families.
Be part of the change.
